Zankou Build

The Scarlet Letter's most dangerous member has reached our side. Zankou arrives on her Alluring Shadows banner in NTE Version 1.3 Phase 1 on August 19, 2026, and runs until September 9.

As an S-rank Incantation Main DPS, she fights across two distinct combat states, Reality and Illusion. She applies long-lasting DoT effects, spreads them across enemies, and detonates everything through a two-part Ultimate burst. This NTE Zankou build guide covers her best Arc, Modules, skill priorities, Awakenings, and top team compositions to get the most out of her from day one.

Zankou Character Overview

Zankou is a member of The Scarlet Letter faction and a crucial character in NTE's Version 1.3 roster. She arrives as the patch's first limited banner character, available exclusively through the Alluring Shadows banner, with no path to her through the standard pool.

Zankou is an Incantation Condensate main DPS. Her combat identity is built around a two-state system. She opens in Reality, uses her attacks and Redirect Skill to transition into Illusion, then spreads multiple DoT effects through enhanced attack strings while Delusion keeps her team's DoT CRIT DMG climbing. Her enhanced Redirect Skill near the end of Illusion snaps her back to Reality with a wide AoE finisher that also sets up her additional Ultimate action.

Zankou

She enters every battle with 100 Cycle Energy already loaded. The more DoT stacks she keeps active (Scorch, Hexed, and others), the harder her damage hits. This makes team selection around consistent status application the most important build decision for her.

Pro Tip: Zankou shines with strong DoT uptime, so build her team carefully and use BuffBuff for quick and cost-friendly NTE top-ups.

Zankou Skills and Kit

Zankou's kit revolves around one continuous loop, i.e., enter Reality, build toward Illusion, spread DoTs through enhanced attack strings, and detonate everything through her two-part Ultimate. Every skill either feeds that cycle or makes it hit harder.

Basic Attack

Wildfire (Reality Form)

A five-hit Incantation DMG chain. The fifth hit pulls nearby enemies inward and activates the Hunt buff for the attack's duration. It's her bread-and-butter opener in Reality Form.

Zankou Basic Attack

Nightmare Waltz (Illusion Form)

A four-hit Incantation chain that inflicts Heartwrench on every hit and pulls enemies on the third. Each hit spreads up to four active DoT effects from the target to all nearby enemies. This is the core of her sustained damage window. Activates the Delusion buff throughout and counts as Follow-up Attack DMG.

Flickering Shadow

Hold Basic Attack during the first or second hit of Wildfire to branch into this follow-up strike dealing Incantation DMG. A useful interrupt into her combo without fully committing to the full chain.

Moonfall

Same input as Flickering Shadow but in Illusion Form. Deals Incantation DMG, inflicts Heartwrench, and counts as Follow-up Attack DMG.

Broken Twigs

Press Basic Attack mid-air to plunge into the ground for AoE Incantation DMG. Scales with fall height up to a 100% bonus.

Critical Riposte: Voidstep

Press Basic Attack after a Critical Dodge to land an Incantation hit that also reduces enemy Break.

Redirect Skill

Sanguine Dash (Reality → Illusion)

The primary form-switching tool. Successfully casting Sanguine Dash while in Reality Form shifts Zankou into Illusion. After the 4th or 5th hit of Wildfire, Flickering Shadow, or Voidstep, an enhanced version unlocks, which inflicts Heartwrench and triggers Disarray for massive AoE Break reduction, along with carrying the Hunt buff into Illusion Form briefly before it fades.

Zankou Redirect Skill

Soulcross (Illusion → Reality)

Closes out the Illusion window with a wide-area burst that inflicts Heartwrench and triggers Oblivion, which activates Bloodfeast Reverie in the process. An enhanced version becomes available shortly before Illusion Form naturally ends. Carries the Delusion buff briefly into Reality Form. All Soulcross and enhanced Soulcross damage counts as Follow-up Attack DMG. The form switch fails if the cast is interrupted before completion.

Ultimate: Inferno Flamenco

Zankou has two Ultimates that interact with each other. Casting the Ultimate when Bloodfeast Reverie is inactive fires Inferno Flamenco. When Bloodfeast Reverie is active, it takes priority and deals Follow-up Attack DMG while inflicting Vile Ash across a large area. Successfully landing Bloodfeast Reverie then unlocks one free enhanced Inferno Flamenco that doesn't consume Ultimate Energy. This window expires if not used in time.

Ultimate: Inferno Flamenco

Zankou Skill Priority

Basic Attack > Ultimate > Redirect Skill > Support Skill

Basic Attack covers Wildfire and Nightmare Waltz, the most frequently used skills across both forms and the foundation of her DoT-spreading rotation. Ultimate follows since Bloodfeast Reverie into free enhanced Inferno Flamenco is her biggest burst payoff. Redirect Skill enables form switching and unlocks Disarray and Oblivion. Leveling it improves direct damage but not the mechanics themselves. Support Skill delivers a single Incantation hit with no rotation role, so level it last.

Zankou Best Arcs

The following are Zankou best Arcs NTE:

Signature Arc

Spellbound SpecialSpellbound SpecialATK +570CRIT Rate +24%CRIT Rate +16% passive on top of the substat. Dealing Incantation DMG stacks +18% CRIT DMG for 15s, up to 7 stacks (126% total), and triggers once every 0.3s with duration refreshing on retrigger.
Spellbound Special peaks at exactly the right moment; by the time Zankou reaches her Illusion finisher sequence, all 7 CRIT DMG stacks are already running. Soulcross, Oblivion, Bloodfeast Reverie, and the follow-up Ultimate all land harder as a result. Her DoT-heavy rotation keeps the stacks topped up throughout, so the bonus covers her entire damage profile rather than just one window.

Alternative Arcs

Fluff of FinesseFluff of FinesseATK +512ATK +27.5%Critical Dodges stack +14.4% DMG up to 3 times for 10s and reset on retrigger. ATK-heavy stat line benefits her full damage profile. Less consistent than the signature but performs well when dodges are maintained.
Contemplative CatContemplative CatATK +512CRIT DMG +44%Pure stat-stick pick. The high CRIT DMG secondary makes balancing her CRIT ratio straightforward. The Cosmos passive does nothing for Incantation damage, so the value comes entirely from raw stats.

Zankou Best Modules

The following are Zankou best Module sets:

Main DPS

Crimson: Twin ButterfliesCrimson: Twin Butterflies2-PieceIncantation DMG +10%
4-PieceEach nearby enemy taking Incantation DMG from the team adds +6% ATK, up to 6 stacks for 10s each. Stays active off-field

Main Stat: Incantation DMG Bonus / CRIT DMG

Substat: Cycle Intensity

Zankou's go-to set as a Main DPS. Her extended on-field Reality–Illusion rotation naturally keeps all 6 ATK stacks running without any extra effort. The Incantation focus strengthens her Basic attacks, Follow-ups, DoTs, and Ultimate all at once rather than spiking one specific window. The best fit for her sustained damage identity.

Sub DPS

Lost RadianceLost Radiance2-PieceCosmos DMG +10%
4-PieceCasting Ultimate ignores 25% of enemy DEF for 20s and doesn't stack

Main Stat: CRIT DMG / CRIT Rate > Universal DMG Bonus > ATK%

Substat: Cycle Intensity > CRIT DMG > CRIT Rate > Universal DMG Bonus > ATK%

When running Zankou build as a Sub DPS, she rotates out after setting up DoTs, Cycle reactions, and her Ultimate. Lost Radiance's post-Ultimate DEF shred suits this style perfectly, as her remaining damage benefits from the open window after she swaps out. The Cosmos 2-piece contributes nothing to her Incantation kit, but the 4-piece payoff makes it the right choice for quick-swap compositions.

Zankou Awakening Priority

PriorityAwakeningsWhy
1stA1 or A5A1 extends DoT spread to more attacks and keeps Hunt and Delusion permanently active. This is a pure personal damage upgrade. A5 trades that for massive team Break utility instead. Pick based on whether you need more personal damage or faster vulnerability windows
2ndA2 + A4The strongest two-Awakening package. A2 elevates Inferno Flamenco's output, while A4 triggers Bloodfeast Reverie earlier and lets it share Stored Flame. Together they define her Ultimate burst identity.
3rdA2 + A4 + A5Adding A5 to the core Ultimate package opens a second payoff. It accelerates enemy Break for the whole team and helps everyone capitalize harder on vulnerability windows.
4thA2 + A4 + A5 + A1With the damage core secured, A1 improves her entire rotation rather than one window. Broader DoT spreading and permanent Hunt and Delusion running simultaneously
5thA2 + A4 + A5 + A1 + A3A3 is comfort over power, as interruption resistance protects her timed Illusion sequence and self-healing eases field pressure. Useful in high-difficulty content but the least damage-defining pick of the set.
FullAll sixA6 closes out the package, Oblivion's final hit scales with heavy DoT stacking, and unlocking everything also grants bonus ATK and stronger Turbid Burn setup.

This is a Zankou team without Lacrimosa, aggressive Scorch/Hexed setup. Daffodill supports Scorch and Break damage, while Jiuyuan adds Hexed and enemy grouping.

Bottom Line

Wrapping up our NTE Zankou build guide with a common question on the web: Is Zankou worth pulling in NTE 1.3?

If you want a powerful DoT-focused Main DPS with strong AoE damage and a unique Reality–Illusion playstyle, she is absolutely worth it. She works well at base investment and becomes even stronger with the right Arc, Modules, and DoT teammates.

If you are ready to pull Zankou or upgrade her build, you can use BuffBuff to top up the NTE currency you need for her banner and other NTE purchases.
