FC 27 Future Stars Guide: Live Upgrades, Team1 Preview & Academy Tips

Future Stars is FC 27‘s Ultimate Team campaign built around young players, and this year it arrives earlier than usual — in October instead of the usual February slot. The campaign runs on two tracks: the Team 1 player items you pull from packs, and the Future Stars Academy Evolutions you develop for free. I’ve been testing Team 1 cards over the past few days, and I want to walk through the whole event in one place, because the upgrade rules this year change how you should value every card in the promo.

FC 27 Future Stars Team 1: Rio Ngumoha Leads

Team 1 went live on October 9 and stays in packs until October 16. The squad has 15 players across the men’s and women‘s game, drawn from the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 .

Rio Ngumoha Leads

The headliner is Liverpool‘s Rio Ngumoha. In FC 26’s Academy mode, he was used by players in over 205 countries, racking up 37.5 million goals and 30.7 million assists . His Team 1 card sits at 89 OVR with 93 Pace, 88 Dribbling, 85 Shooting, and 82 Passing — the fastest player in the squad.

Rio Ngumoha

In practice, his biggest selling point is the explosive first step. Once he receives the ball on the wing, a simple cut inside is enough to leave most fullbacks behind. The catch is his 63 Physicality. If a defender gets tight, he struggles to hold the ball up, so he suits counter-attacking and stretching the pitch, not back-to-goal link play.

Vicky López (90 OVR) is the highest-rated card in Team 1, with 90 Pace, 91 Dribbling, 87 Passing, and 86 Shooting . She feels smoother on the ball than Ngumoha, with quicker touches in tight areas, which makes her better in and around the box. But both she and Ngumoha share the same problem: their ratings are already above the Live Upgrade ceiling of 87 OVR.

FC 27 Future Stars Live Upgrades: The 87 OVR Ceiling

FC 27‘s Future Stars cards are not static. They are Live items, meaning they upgrade based on the player’s real-world domestic league performances, with all upgrades landing on February 3, 2027 . There are two upgrade paths:

Non-Americas leagues (Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, etc.):

4 starts → +1 OVR (cap 86)

8 starts → +1 OVR (cap 87)

ATT/MID: 7 combined goals and assists → +1 PlayStyle+; 10 combined → 5-star weak foot

DEF/GK: 4 clean sheets → +1 PlayStyle+; 7 clean sheets → 5-star weak foot

Non-Americas leagues (Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, etc.)

Americas leagues (NWSL, MLS, Liga MX, LPF):

2 starts → +1 OVR (cap 86)

3 starts → +1 OVR (cap 87)

ATT/MID: 2 combined goals and assists → +1 PlayStyle+; 4 combined → 5-star weak foot

DEF/GK: 2 clean sheets → +1 PlayStyle+; 3 clean sheets → 5-star weak foot

Americas leagues (NWSL, MLS, Liga MX, LPF)

The key limit is the 87 OVR ceiling. That means:

85 or lower cards can take both OVR upgrades (→86→87), making them the best long-term value in the promo.

86-rated cards only get one upgrade (→87).

87 and above get no OVR upgrade at all.

Here‘s the part I wish more people understood: the most expensive cards in Team 1 are the least likely to grow. If your goal is to invest in cards with upgrade potential, focus on the 85-86 OVR items, especially from the Americas leagues.

FC 27 Future Stars Academy: Free 85 OVR Player

The Academy is Future Stars’ free Evolution system. You pick one ST or CAM born on or after October 9, 2003, and push them from 81 OVR to 85 OVR through four Evolutions .

FC 27 Future Stars Academy: Free 85 OVR Player

The schedule:

Academy I: October 9 (live)

Academy II: October 11 (live)

Academy III: October 13

Academy IV: October 16

Academy I branch choices (the most important step):

Pace: Acceleration/Sprint Speed +12 (cap 84) — for a striker who needs to run in behind

Shooting: Finishing +12 (cap 86) — for a pure finisher

Dribbling: Agility/Ball Control/Dribbling +12 (cap 87) — for a CAM who needs to carry the ball

Academy II branch choices:

Playmaker: passing and vision boosts — for a creative CAM

Powerhouse: physical and stamina boosts — for a physical ST

All-Rounder: a mix of passing and physical — balanced but less specialised

Academy II

Academy II

What I’d recommend:

If you need a striker: go Shooting in Academy I, then Powerhouse in Academy II.

If you need a CAM: go Dribbling in Academy I, then Playmaker in Academy II.

If you need both: prioritise the striker.

The Academy itself is free. You only need an eligible player in your club. But once you commit a player to the Academy chain, do not give them any unrelated Evolution — it can lock them out of the next stage.

FC 27 Future Stars Academy Objectives

Alongside the Evolutions, there are five objectives that reward you for playing

with your Academy player :

Completing all five gives you a 5×81+ Gold Players Pack. Eligible modes are Squad Battles (min. Semi-Pro), Rush, Rivals, Champions, and Live Events. Note that Shining Star requires goals in 15 separate matches — scoring 15 goals in one game will not complete it.

FC 27 Future Stars Timeline

FC 27 Future Stars

  • October 9: Team 1 live, Live Upgrade tracking begins, Academy I live
  • October 11: Academy II live
  • October 13: Academy III live
  • October 16: Team 2 reveal, Academy IV live, Team 1 leaves packs
  • February 3, 2027: Live Upgrades applied

Conclusion

The most usable Team 1 cards in actual matches are Rio Ngumoha (93 Pace) and Vicky López (90 OVR), but both are already above the 87 OVR ceiling and will not gain any OVR from Live Upgrades. If you care about future growth, look at the 85-86 OVR cards in Team 1, especially from the Americas leagues — but check their league calendar first.

The Academy is the cheapest and most valuable part of the whole event. Pick an ST or CAM that fits your squad, follow the branch recommendations above, and you can walk away with an 85 OVR player for free, plus objective rewards along the way.
