FC 27 Best Centre-Backs: Top 10 Ratings, Best by Type & Budget Picks
2026-10-20
FC 27’s centre-back pool works differently from the striker list. Pace gets the headlines, but for defenders, the real question is who makes the fewest mistakes. I looked at EA‘s official ratings and cross-checked with FUT Mind’s meta-based ranking. Then I filtered for players who actually hold a defensive line in-game, not just the ones with the highest OVR. Here‘s the Top 10, broken down by defensive style, plus the budget picks that won’t get you punished on the counter.

FC 27 Best Centre-Backs: Top 10
EA’s official database confirms Gabriel, Willian Pacho, and William Saliba as the highest-rated centre-backs in the game. But OVR only tells half the story. FUT Mind‘s scoring puts a heavier weight on PlayStyles, acceleration, and role fit. That explains why some lower-rated cards actually perform better in specific systems.
Gabriel is the purest stopper in FC 27 with 91 DEF. His 92 Defensive Awareness and 91 Standing Tackle make him the most reliable card inside the box. But I have to flag that 64 PAC. If you play a high line, he will get caught by through balls.
| Rank | Player | OVR | PAC | SHO | PAS | DRI | DEF | PHY |
| 1 | Gabriel | 89 | 64 | 44 | 64 | 66 | 91 | 84 |
| 2 | Willian Pacho | 89 | 80 | 34 | 63 | 65 | 90 | 86 |
| 3 | William Saliba | 88 | 77 | 41 | 68 | 73 | 90 | 82 |
| 4 | Virgil van Dijk | 88 | 70 | 60 | 72 | 70 | 89 | 85 |
| 5 | Bremer | 86 | 85 | 52 | 59 | 68 | 87 | 85 |
| 6 | Dayot Upamecano | 87 | 80 | 45 | 65 | 75 | 86 | 83 |
| 7 | Marquinhos | 87 | 74 | 56 | 75 | 73 | 89 | 78 |
| 8 | Nico Schlotterbeck | 87 | 81 | 60 | 76 | 74 | 86 | 84 |
| 9 | Rúben Dias | 87 | 58 | 44 | 69 | 69 | 87 | 83 |
| 10 | Jonathan Tah | 87 | 62 | 38 | 60 | 63 | 87 | 86 |
FC 27 Best Centre-Backs: The DEF vs PAC Trade-off
- Willian Pacho is the most balanced centre-back in FC 27 with 80 PAC and 90 DEF. He is the only defender in the top three who combines elite defensive stats with genuine recovery speed. His 85 Sprint Speed means he can actually chase down runners when your line breaks. At the same time, 91 Defensive Awareness and 93 Standing Tackle keep him reliable in the box.
- Gabriel offers the higher defensive ceiling. His 91 DEF and 92 Defensive Awareness are unmatched. But that 64 PAC means he is much more comfortable defending in front of him than chasing an attacker over a large distance. If you pair him with a faster partner and avoid an exposed high line, he is still the best pure stopper in the game.
- Saliba sits right between them. He has 90 DEF with 77 PAC, offering more mobility than Gabriel without sacrificing too much defensive quality.
FC 27 Best Centre-Backs by Type
Bremer is the fastest centre-back in the top 10 with 85 PAC and 87 DEF. I’d recommend him if you defend a high line and need recovery speed above all else. His 85 PHY also keeps him strong in physical duels.
Pure stoppers (Gabriel, Rúben Dias)
- Gabriel at 91 DEF is the choice when you need someone to win every challenge around the box.
- Dias at 87 DEF offers a similar profile for a fraction of the price. But his 58 PAC makes him even more dependent on perfect positioning.
Balanced defenders (Pacho, Saliba, Upamecano)
- Pacho at 80 PAC / 90 DEF is the best all-round option for a high line.
- Upamecano at 80 PAC / 86 DEF gives you 90% of that profile for around 19.5K Coins. I think that makes him the best value in this category.
Pace-first defenders (Bremer, Schlotterbeck)
- Bremer at 85 PAC / 87 DEF is the fastest centre-back in the top 10.
- Schlotterbeck at 81 PAC / 86 DEF offers a similar mobile profile with better passing (76 PAS).

- Dayot Upamecano (87 OVR Base Gold) – 80 PAC / 86 DEF / 83 PHY

FC 27 Best Centre-Backs: FC 27 vs FC 26 Defensive Changes
Several top defenders got real DEF upgrades in FC 27 compared to their FC 26 base cards. I looked at the numbers, and some changes actually shift how these players feel in-game.
| Player | FC 26 DEF | FC 27 DEF | Change |
| Willian Pacho | 86 | 90 | +4 |
| Gabriel | 88 | 91 | +3 |
| William Saliba | 87 | 90 | +3 |
| Dayot Upamecano | 84 | 86 | +2 |
| Virgil van Dijk | 90 | 89 | -1 |
Willian Pacho got the biggest jump (+4 DEF). I think this is a huge deal. He already had 80 PAC and 86 PHY. Now with 90 DEF, he is no longer just a fast defender—he is a complete package.
Gabriel and Saliba both got +3 DEF. But they feel different. Gabriel (91 DEF) becomes an even better pure stopper in the box. Saliba, however, now has 90 DEF while keeping 77 PAC. That combination makes him much easier to use if you play a high line.
Upamecano got a solid +2 boost to reach 86 DEF. He still keeps his 80 PAC, which is exactly why I think he is the best value pick right now.
Van Dijk is the only one who dropped (90 to 89 DEF). But honestly? 89 DEF and 85 PHY still make him one of the strongest traditional centre-backs in the game. Don't worry about the -1.
FAQs
Conclusion
Pacho and Saliba are the two best centre-backs in FC 27 if you want a defender who can survive in a high line. Gabriel is still the best pure stopper, but he needs a faster partner and a system that doesn’t expose him to through balls.
If you‘re on a budget, Upamecano at 19.5K is the standout value. He gives you the pace to defend space without sacrificing defensive quality. Ibañez at 2.6K is the cheapest usable option if you just need someone who can run.
Pick based on how you defend: high line for pace, low block for pure DEF. The best centre-back for your team is the one who makes the fewest mistakes in your system, not the one with the highest OVR.
