Claret

Claret is an S-Rank Electric Agent and the first character to use the Armorer Specialty in Zenless Zone Zero. She is different from conventional DPS units, as her skills scale with DEF, while her Laceration mechanic gives a CRIT Rate beyond the usual 100% threshold.

Her gameplay centers on entering Crimson Inscription and building Gash on enemies, along with consuming it through Maim-triggering attacks. This lets Claret maintain pressure on the field while converting her DEF- and CRIT-focused build into sustained Electric and Sharp DMG.

This Zenless Zone Zero Claret build guide covers her skills, best W-Engines, Drive Discs, stat priorities, team compositions, and Mindscape Cinema upgrades.

Claret Character Overview

ClaretRarityS-rank
AttributeElectric
SpecialtyArmorer

Claret is an Electric Armorer Agent and the Administrative Director of Flint Workshop in ZZZ 3.2. Her strength is DEF-based damage scaling, as her Core Passive converts her skill damage into Sharp DMG, with DEF determining the skill multipliers. Her CRIT system is also unusual. When a hit has already crit, CRIT Rate above 100% can trigger an additional Laceration check.

Her main combat state is Crimson Inscription, which enhances her attacks and increases CRIT Rate, Gash Buildup, and resistance to interruption. During this window, Claret builds Gash through her attacks and consumes the stacks with specific Special Attacks to activate Maim for additional damage.

Claret Skills and Kit

Claret's combat loop is a setup-and-burst cycle. She builds Sharpness through attacks and spends it to enter Crimson Inscription. Afterward, she uses her enhanced Blood Axe Basic Attack string to accumulate Gash stacks on enemies, then consumes those stacks with Special Attacks to trigger Maim.

Basic Attack

Claret Skills and Kit

Basic Attack: Bloodforging Four Forms

ZZZ Claret build performs up to four forward strikes that deal Electric DMG. Her standard attacks are used outside Crimson Inscription to build toward her enhanced combat loop.

Basic Attack: Bloodbloom Oath — Starforging

While Crimson Inscription is active, Claret replaces her normal combo with a three-stage Blood Axe sequence. The third stage unleashes repeated slashes before a jumping downward smash, with increased Anti-Interrupt Level and 40% reduced DMG taken during the repeated slashes.

You can keep pressing or holding Basic Attack to extend this sequence. A Perfect Dodge during her leap lets her continue directly into the third hit, which keeps Crimson Inscription active throughout the skill.

Basic Attack: Bloodbloom Oath — Subduing Axe

After Cleaving Gold and Iron or Blood Burial Assault triggers Maim, the best Claret build can follow up with Subduing Axe. She spins into the air before slamming down with the Blood Axe, then can transition back into the third hit of Starforging.

Dodge

Dodge: Night Vision

Claret performs a quick dash and becomes invulnerable during the dodge.

Dash Attack — Tempering

While outside Crimson Inscription, using Basic Attack during a Dodge produces a forward hammer strike that deals Electric DMG.

Dodge Counter — Returning Edge

After a Perfect Dodge, Claret counters with her hammer. While Crimson Inscription is active, this becomes Bloodbloom Oath — Returning Edge, using the Blood Axe while keeping the enhanced state active.

Claret Skills and Kit

Assist

Claret CRIT build has several Assist options depending on the situation.

  • Quick Assist — Return of the Dire Moon: Deals Electric DMG after the active character is launched.
  • Bloodbloom Oath — Return of the Dire Moon: The Crimson Inscription version keeps her enhanced state active.
  • Defensive Assist — Unyielding Heart of the Furnace: Parries attacks, deals heavy Daze, and prevents Crimson Inscription from losing duration.
  • Assist Follow-Up — Bloodbloom Oath — Pureforged Edge: Follows a Defensive Assist with a powerful Electric attack.
  • Counter Assist — Give Not an Inch of Steel: Lets Claret contest certain enemy Control Skills and counter with Electric DMG.
  • Assist Follow-Up — Bloodbloom Oath — Hammer Into Shape: Follows Counter Assist with a heavy attack that also adds one Gash stack to the enemy.

Several of these attacks preserve Crimson Inscription. So, Assist actions are useful for extending her empowered combat sequence.

Special Attack

Special Attack: Porcelume's First Call

Claret strikes forward twice with her forging hammer and deals Electric DMG. Her Anti-Interrupt Level is increased while using the skill.

EX Special Attack: Bloodbloom Oath — Secret Forging Techniques

With enough Sharpness and while outside Crimson Inscription, Claret transforms her hammer into the Blood Axe and enters Crimson Inscription for 16 seconds. Its duration stops decreasing while she is off-field.

If her attacks defeat an enemy within 0.5 seconds while Crimson Inscription remains active, the state gains 3 seconds of additional duration. This can occur once every 3 seconds.

Holding Special Attack lets Claret skip the initial slash and transition directly into her alternate Special Attacks. She is also invulnerable during this skill.

Claret Skills and Kit

Special Attack: Bloodbloom Oath — Cleaving Gold and Iron

During Crimson Inscription, Claret performs an upward slash followed by a horizontal strike. Hitting an enemy with Gash triggers Maim, consuming one Gash stack and dealing additional AoE Electric DMG.

The skill keeps Crimson Inscription active and gives Claret increased interruption resistance. Successfully triggering Maim also grants invulnerability during the attack.

Special Attack: Bloodbloom Oath — Blood Burial Assault

While performing Cleaving Gold and Iron, hold Special Attack to unleash three consecutive horizontal slashes. Each slash that hits an enemy carrying Gash can trigger Maim, which allows up to three consecutive Maim activations during the skill.

The third activation has a higher Interrupt Level, while the skill itself maintains Crimson Inscription and provides an increased Anti-Interrupt Level.

Chain Attack

Chain Attack: Bloodbloom Oath — Resonant Blood Pact

Claret unleashes a series of powerful slashes against enemies ahead. Crimson Inscription neither loses duration nor ends during the Chain Attack, and Claret remains invulnerable throughout.

Ultimate

Ultimate: Bloodbloom Oath — Trial After Trial

At maximum Decibel Rating, Claret launches another heavy slash sequence that deals massive Electric DMG. The Crimson Inscription timer remains paused during the Ultimate, and Claret gains 10 Sharpness when activating it. She is invulnerable throughout the attack.

Core Passive

Core Passive: Banquet of Pale Blood

Claret's skill damage is classified as Sharp DMG, with its multipliers scaling from DEF. Certain Sharp DMG attacks build Gash, which can reach three stacks on an enemy. Cleaving Gold and Iron and Blood Burial Assault consume Gash to trigger Maim.

Her CRIT system also works in a different way from standard Agents. Sharp DMG uses the Laceration DMG Bonus when it crits, while CRIT Rate above 100% can perform an additional Laceration check after a normal critical hit. Claret also gains 0.35% initial CRIT Rate for every 1% initial CRIT DMG.

Claret starts with 60 Sharpness when entering the battlefield. While Crimson Inscription is active, she gains an increased Anti-Interrupt Level, while her Chain Attack extends the state by 2 seconds. Her CRIT Rate and Gash Buildup Rate also increase during Crimson Inscription and certain high-impact attacks.

Additional Ability: Bloodline Legacy

Claret activates this Additional Ability when another squad member is a Stun or Armorer character, or shares her Electric attribute. When any squad member triggers Contamination, Claret gains 300 Decibels, with an 18-second cooldown.

Whenever Claret or another teammate triggers Maim, all Armorer Agents enter Remnant Edge, increasing Laceration DMG by 25% for 40 seconds. The effect refreshes when triggered again.

Claret Skill Priority

Core Passive > Special Attack > Basic Attack > Chain Attack > Assist > Dodge

Prioritize the Core Passive first because it defines Claret's DEF-based Sharp DMG and her Gash, Maim, and Laceration mechanics. Special Attack comes next because Cleaving Gold and Iron and Blood Burial Assault form the main Maim portion of her rotation, followed by Basic Attack for her sustained Starforging sequence.

Claret Best W-Engines

Signature W-Engine — Crimson Thirst

Crimson Thirst

Crimson Thirst is the signature W-Engine for the best Crimson build. The 48% DEF mainstat feeds her Sharp DMG scaling directly. The 25% CRIT Rate covers the stat ZZZ Claret kit is hungriest for. The 15% Electric DMG applies to everything she does. Its 12% Electric Sharp DMG buff lasts 40 seconds and refreshes from EX Specials and Maim triggers.

Pro Tip: The signature W-Engine Crimson Thirst is mandatory for Claret ZZZ kit, as there are currently no strong Armorer alternatives. Top up your ZZZ Polychromes through BuffBuff at the best rates and make sure you can pull for both her banner and her W-Engine.

Claret Best Drive Discs

Thorned Rose 4pc + Woodpecker Electro 2pc

Thorned Rose 4pcWoodpecker Electro 2pc

Thorned Rose is Claret's top set. Its DEF bonus feeds her Sharp DMG scaling directly, while the 4-piece CRIT Rate increase at 1,000 and 1,800 initial DEF aligns perfectly with her kit's hunger for CRIT. The 15% DMG increase further amplifies her entire damage output. Pairing it with Woodpecker Electro adds another 8% CRIT Rate on top, which helps her reach the in-combat CRIT threshold her Laceration system depends on without sacrificing DEF.

Thorned Rose 4pc + Soul Rock 2pc

Thorned Rose 4pcSoul Rock 2pc

A solid Claret best Drive Disc alternative pairing when CRIT Rate is already comfortable from substats. Soul Rock's DEF% 2-piece bonus pushes her closer to the 1,800 DEF breakpoint that unlocks Thorned Rose's full CRIT Rate conversion. So, it's the better choice when DEF is the bottleneck rather than CRIT.

Claret Team Comps

Claret performs best as an on-field DPS alongside a Stun Agent and a support. Her Additional Ability also benefits from having a Stun, Armorer, or matching Electric teammate. This makes the team structure flexible.

Premium Claret Team

ClaretClaretRoxyRoxyRinaRina

This is the best Claret team in Version 3.2. Roxy provides Stun and Laceration support, while Rina adds PEN Ratio and DEF-related utility that directly complements Claret's scaling.

Alternative Claret Team

ClaretClaretNormaNormaRinaRina

This is another Claret team in ZZZ 3.2 where Norma acts as an excellent substitute for Roxy. Her Chain Attacks can help extend Claret's Crimson Inscription state while Rina supplies additional offensive support.

Claret F2P Build Team

ClaretClaretAnbyAnbyNicoleNicole

Claret can also work great with the Cunning Hares team comp of Nicole and Anby. Anby offers Stuns, and Nicole shreds enemy DEF.

Claret Mindscape Cinema

CinemaNameEffect
M1Bloodstained ChronicleLaceration triggers increase Gash Buildup, while Maim gains a stronger damage multiplier.
M2Crown of Inherited FlameExtends Crimson Inscription and allows Claret's attacks to ignore a portion of the target's Electric RES during key attacks.
M3Oath Written in FrostingRaises Basic Attack, Assist, Dodge, Special Attack, and Chain Attack levels by 2.
M4Crimson Moon WandererImproves Claret's extended Basic Attack sequence and increases the damage of several major attacks.
M5Duskblood FurnaceRaises Basic Attack, Assist, Dodge, Special Attack, and Chain Attack levels by 2.
M6Warm Night's DreamChain Attack and Ultimate can trigger an additional Maim without consuming Gash.

Conclusion

Claret brings a different approach to DPS building in Zenless Zone Zero. Her damage focuses around DEF, CRIT Rate, Gash, Maim, and Crimson Inscription, so conventional ATK-focused builds leave much of her potential unused.

Start by reaching 1,800 initial DEF, then push CRIT Rate and build around a reliable Stun teammate. With Crimson Thirst, Thorned Rose, Roxy, and Rina, the ZZZ Claret build has a setup that fully supports her DEF scaling and Laceration-focused damage loop. And don't forget to top up your ZZZ Polychromes through BuffBuff at the best rates and make sure you're stocked before her Bloodmoon Rising banner closes on September 30.
