Roblox has hit a surprising milestone, accumulating more users than the entire population of people in the world. The Roblox achievement is one that's taken some fans by surprise, but also indicates just how popular the game really is.
Roblox has managed to remain an extremely popular game nearly 20 years after its original release. The title's popularity has likely been due in large part to the fact that the platform has spawned an endless number of games to play, with many built and created from the ground up by the fans and users themselves.
Now, one of those Roblox games has revealed that the overall number of user accounts on the platform is now higher than that the world population. To be precise, the number given was 8,228,760,226, while the human population of the world is estimated to be at 8,214,500,000 people at time of publication. The data is courtesy of a Roblox game called New User Machine that tabulates the number of user accounts that have joined the service. The game estimated that Roblox would reach 8.229 billion users within 40 minutes of the screenshot being taken, so it's likely that it's risen even further by now.
How Does Roblox Have More User Than the World Population?
As fans have pointed out, while this is quite the achievement for Roblox, it doesn't mean that all of these user accounts are valid or in use. New User Machine counts user accounts that join Roblox, but that doesn't mean that every account is still in use or ever was. Users have speculated that a good chunk of the accounts could belong to bots, and that many could also be alts. The count also includes terminated accounts.
With that said, even with terminated accounts, bots, and alts taken into consideration, there's no argument that this is still an incredible number for Roblox to have reached. For comparison's sake, mobile games like PUBG, Call of Duty, and Among Us have seen hundreds of millions of downloads and/or players, while Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto 5 have sold hundreds of millions of copies each. These numbers are incredible in their own right, but the sheer difference is staggering.
Roblox has previously been accused of inflating player counts, which the company refuted. While this new statistic doesn't tell the full story, Roblox has done something that few online services and platforms, let alone games, can claim. It will be interesting to see what Roblox's overall user count looks like in a few years from now.
