Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has just received two major updates: Patch 5 and the 'Obelisk' update. Patch 5 focuses on balance changes, particularly buffing blocking weapons and adding an 'Extermination Bonus' to Operations mode. The Obelisk update introduces a new PvE map, challenging enemies, and cosmetic content for Season Pass holders. Both updates also include significant technical improvements and community engagement initiatives.

Patch 5: Revamped Combat and Quality of Life

Patch 5 completely overhauls blocking weapons, transforming them from ineffective tools into powerful assets. Successful blocks now grant melee damage buffs, culminating in a devastating area-of-effect attack. This change, coupled with a general melee damage buff, aims to diversify combat strategies. The introduction of an 'Extermination Bonus' in Operations mode incentivizes players to engage with enemies fully, rewarding them for eliminating more foes. Other improvements include a nerf to Zoanthrope attack frequency, a new Operation, a new enemy type, and a Dark Angels cosmetic pack. While firearm balance is considered satisfactory currently, future patches, specifically Patch 7, will address weapon perks and the overpowered Grenade Launcher. The update also brings numerous bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements. Notably, mod support is discontinued in public lobbies starting with Patch 5.0.

Obelisk Update: New Map, Enemies, and Cosmetics

The 'Obelisk' update, the biggest yet for Space Marine 2, introduces a new replayable PvE map set on the Demerium burial world. Players will face a challenging new enemy: the Tzaangor Enlightened, riding a Disc of Tzeentch, in all Thousand Sons-related Operations missions. Season Pass holders will gain access to the Dark Angels Chapter Pack, offering a new Bulwark class skin, various weapon skins, a Storm Shield skin, and over 40 additional cosmetic items. This update also provides technical enhancements, including improved resolution and frame rates for PS5 Pro users through Spectral Super Resolution, and the addition of AMD FSR 3 and Nvidia DLSS 3 frame generation support for PC players. Secret Level's Warhammer 40,000 collaboration offers Twitch viewers exclusive in-game cosmetics for watching two hours of Space Marine 2 streams before December 31st.

    Community Engagement and Future Plans

Focus Interactive encourages players to actively participate in the Space Marine 2 community, providing feedback through their Focus Together platform for potential rewards. This shows a commitment to player input and iterative development based on community feedback. While Patch 5 and the Obelisk update are substantial, future updates are planned to address remaining balance concerns and further enhance the gameplay experience. The developers are actively listening to player feedback and using it to shape the direction of the game's future development.
