As we head into 2025 proper, it's no surprise that multiple top multiplayer communities are also eagerly anticipating the esports calendar for this year. And Garena's hit multiplayer shooter Free Fire has unveiled a new roadmap for their esports plans coming up in 2025 with rules changes and new formats, among other things.
The biggest news is, as you might have guessed, the announcement that Indonesia will play the role of host for the Free Fire World Series Global Finals in November. Free Fire is also set to return to the Esports World Cup taking place from the 15th to the 20th of July in Saudi Arabia. The two biggest events in the Free Fire esports calendar, these events will see the best teams join together to battle it out for dominance on the international stage.
But even bigger than that, and more pertinent for many of you, there are big changes on the horizon for the tournament format as a whole. Wave bye-bye to three-day weekends as the standard will now be two days with only one of Point Rush before the Grand Final. These are sure to be controversial but could represent a really exciting difference for the upcoming events.
Rewriting the rules
Aside from that, there are plenty of other slight rule changes to the main competitive format. For example, Last Game, Double Elimination; during the last game of each match day during the Knockout Stage each player will earn double points for eliminations.
Teams will also have to equip different active skills to each member, ensuring a diversity of playstyles and challenging them to use even less optimal skillsets in new and creative ways. There are plenty more rules changes and top competitions taking place over the year, but to get a look at them in action you'll have to dig into the upcoming Garena Free Fire esports calendar to see!
